Local roundup: Shore boys soccer makes most of opportunites, defeats Shamokin

Though Shamokin matched up well with it in terms of shots on goal, Jersey Shore boys soccer was the team to make the most of those opportunities, converting half of its six on its way to a 3-1 win. Ben Gill, Dylan Hensler and Jayden Passetti each notched goals for the Bulldogs, with Hensler’s and Passetti’s coming in close succession to give the team a 3-0 lead early in the second half.

Despite some strong play on the defensive side, the Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team endured its second straight lopsided loss on Wednesday at Central, falling to the Dragons, 5-0. Emily Steffan had 19 saves in the goal for the Eagles, and defender Savanna Albright helped where she could, clearing balls anytime she had a chance.

Josie Gerst, Julia Herman and Molly Dalton swept the singles matches, winning in straight sets as Jersey Shore defeated Montoursville, 4-1. Herman won a hard-fought match against Ali Ravert, taking the second set in a tiebreaker. Mya Lehman and Rylee Allison were victorious in doubles for Jersey Shore, while Montoursville’s doubles team of Kenna Vought and Mya Wilson also won.
