BELLEFONTE – It was an offensive explosion Tuesday night at Rogers Stadium as the Bellefonte Red Raider boys soccer team scored early and often and never looked back on their way to an 8-1 win over Penn Cambria in a game that was put in mercy rule action.

The Red Raiders exploded for six first half goals, outshooting the Panthers 25-7. Goalkeeper Eli Davis was spectacular in the contest, finishing with five saves while Penn Cambria’s goalkeeper Cooper Sassey had 11.

“We got a go quick. I think we got our first goal in under a minute and a half,” said Bellefonte coach Scott Martz. “We scored quick and took all that pressure off. One thing I wanted to do tonight was I wanted us to win every ball and every 50/50 ball. I think we did that tonight. We passed the ball well and we got everybody involved on the offense. Everybody was getting shots on goals. It was really nice to get some of the younger guys in.”

In the starting seconds of the game, the Red Raiders made quite the statement as they squashed an early offensive run at the net for the Panthers and reversed the field and put the ball downfield. Seconds later, Conelle Stabinger hit a blast that finished as an unassisted goal at 39:26. Stabinger concluded the night with the hat trick.

The Red Raiders continued to pin Penn Cambria defensively as well. They had shut down the Panther offense and closed and moved the field to the Penn Cambria’s side.

Less than six minutes from the first Red Raiders goal, the home team struck again. Pushing down deep in the back-third, John Servant scored on a cross pass from Stabinger at 33:19, making it a 2-0 contest.

And they weren’t done yet.

Before the clock dipped under 30 minutes to play, Stabinger scored his second goal of the night on a pass from Aidan Reed at 30:52. The Bellefonte defense then refused to allow a breakaway as the ball was sent back up field into the Wesley Cooke’s foot. Cook would go on the score soon after, finding the net and logging an unassisted goal at 21:16.

Before anyone could blink, Bellefonte’s Jamin Ondrasik got on the board as well on and unassisted blast at 19:10. The hits kept coming for the Raiders as Gage Rankin made it 6-0 lead as he posted an unassisted goal at 7:39.

In the second half, Bellefonte once again continued its dominance as Stabinger scored from Servant pass at 27:54. And rounding out the Red Raider goals was Ollie Thornburg, as he blasted a shot past the Panthers goalie at 2:53.

The Panthers refused to go away without a fight. Nick Marshall put his team on the board, blasting an unassisted goal into the back of the net at 20:17. That’d be the lone goal Bellefonte surrendered, as it took home the 8-1 win to improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. It’ll look to make it four in a row on the road Thursday, where it’s set to take on Bedford at 7 p.m.
