Local roundup: Central Mountain volleyball improves to 8-0, sweeps DuBois
The Central Mountain volleyball team faced off against DuBois on Tuesday, looking to protect its 7-0 record on the road. It did just that, blanking DuBois, 3-0, to make it eight straight wins to kick off the 2025 season. The set scores on the night were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-14.
The Central Mountain boys cross country team defeated Loyalsock (15-50) and South Williamsport (15-50) but fell to Danville (41-18) in a quad meet on Tuesday afternoon. Damien Winner led the way for the Wildcats, running a 19:25.14. Riley Gonzales finished behind him with a 19:47.83. And three other Wildcats ran below a 21:00 in Latrell Walker (20:07.11), Shane Walker (20:14.49) and Che McCallister (20:36.83).
In girls soccer, Bald Eagle Area played great defense but couldn’t manage to impact the scoreboard, falling to Westmont Hilltop, 1-0, to drop to 0-4 on the season. Emily Steffan put together a strong effort in goal, stopping 12 of Westmont Hilltop’s 13 shots on goals on the night. She was a big reason the Eagles came close to its first win on Tuesday.
“I thought we played pretty well tonight,” said Bald Eagle Area head coach Jared Moore on the performance. “We created a lot of chances, but just couldn’t put the ball in the net unfortunately.”
