Bellefonte, BEA runners compete at LHAC Championships

The Bellefonte cross country team headed out to the Maple Crest Golf Course in Portage for the LHAC Cross Country Championships.

The Bellefonte girls finished 12th out of 15 teams as Natalie Jolley picked up a 10th-place individual medal. Rounding out the top 6 were Emily Moretz in 22:59, Haddie Lutz in 24:14, Aaylyn Cernuska in 25:57, Molly Showers in 26:05 and Megan Showers in 26:30.

The top finisher in the race was Martinsburg Central’s Lanee Berkhimer who ran a 17:28.70. Somerset’s Libby Marteeny (17:59.70) and Emily Fisher (18:04.50) took second and third, respectively.

Bald Eagle Area’s Heidi Eveleth ran a 20:38.00 to take 20th place and was one of four Bald Eagle Area girls to finish in the top 75. Caylynn Dixson was 39th (21:42.10), Emily Steffan ran a 23:36.10 for 70th and Alexis Yoder took 73rd after running a time of 23:46.80.

The Bellefonte boys finished third out of 15 teams with two individual medal winners in Jonathan Gasper, who finished second overall in 15:53, and Maverick Muchmore, who took home 13th in 17:12. Rounding out the top 8 were Carson Fritchman in 17:35, Gunther Kull in 18:38, Ethan Karmelita in 19:37, Kaiden Musser in 20:08, Braeden Strohm in 21:15 and Phoenix Torres in 21:55.

The top finisher in the boys race was Central Cambria’s Ethan Haycisak, who ran a 15:42.30 for a gold medal. Hollidaysburg’s Reuben Manfred ran a 15:59.10 for third and Dean Sunderland, also of Hollidaysburg, ran a 16:04.30 for fourth.

Bald Eagle Area had seven runners compete in the boys competition. Owen Dechow was Bald Eagle Area’s top finisher as he took 25th in 17:55.60. Tristen Rice ran 18:50.60 for 55th and Steven Taylor (20:22.20) took 99th.

Also finishing were Connor Dixson (125th, 21:40.40), Harrison Harter (140th, 22:40.10), Michael Szymanski (142nd, 22:54.00) and Maksim Schapich (156th, 24:19.90).
