Bulldogs host undefeated Hollidaysburg in Week 7 affair
In terms of painting a picture for what could be expected for Jersey Shore football in postseason, Friday's matchup against Hollidaysburg (6-0) may be its most indicative of the 2025 campaign, or at least as indicative as Week 4's against Shamokin. Though the Golden Tigers reside one class higher than the Bulldogs, teams of this caliber will certainly be in Shore's path if it hopes to make a deep November run.
Past the midway point of the season, there's no longer much time for growth. Three games remain on the schedule after Friday, and this matchup gives the Bulldogs their best chance to see where they're at prior to districts.
Unlike last season, Jersey Shore (5-1) has the luxury of playing host and avoiding an hour-and-a-half long road trip. The game is set to take place at 7 p.m. at Thompson Street Stadium in Jersey Shore.
If 2024's matchup was any indication, this game has the potential to be a midseason classic. Last season, the teams traded leads thrice and racked up a combined 721 yards, with the game itself ultimately coming down to the final minute. There, the Bulldogs drove 90 yards down the field before fumbling on the goal line, falling by a score of 27-25.
Though both teams have lost key contributors since that affair, neither has missed a beat in returning to form.
For Hollidaysburg, junior running back Carter Muth has filled in well for 1000-yard rusher Mitchell Baronner, and that's probably an understatement. After attributing over 300 yards his sophomore season, Muth has more than doubled that in less than half the games through 2024, coming into Friday with 691 yards and ten touchdowns on 83 carries (8.3 yards per rush).
Alongside Muth, Cole Delattre has also done well in replacing esteemed quarterback Maddox Bainey, elevating Hollidaysburg's run game to new heights. Behind Muth's success and Delattre's additional 581 yards and nine touchdowns, the Golden Tigers are averaging just under 270 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns per game.
Shore has had its issues dealing with run-heavy approaches, most notably allowing Shamokin to rush for 261 yards on almost six yards per carry three weeks ago. How it works to hinder Hollidaysburg's ground game will be one of the keys to coming out on top.
The same could be said for the Golden Tigers' chances.
Coming off back-to-back wins where they've put up 95 points through the last six quarters, the Bulldogs are operating with the most momentum they've had since their only loss. With their recent offensive explosions, they've breached 300 rushing yards per game alongside 188 passing yards per outing, good for almost 500 yards total.
Running back Bo Sechrist is amidst his most impressive stint on the offensive side of the ball, coming off back-to-back games where he's surpassed 200 all-purpose yards. He needs 179 rushing yards to surpass 1,000 through seven games, with Kash Herritt (59-528-8) and Nolen Pauling (80-355-7) giving Shore's rushing attack three effective dimensions.
Like last season, both programs enter the matchup having prospered through tough six-game stretches. Hollidaysburg is coming off its hardest fought win of the season, a 35-30 victory over one of the best programs in Maryland in Fort Hill. And the Bulldogs are coming off two four-score wins over 4-2 teams in Shikellamy and Williamsport.
Friday's game should certainly be an exciting one. The question is, who finds the edge when it's all said and done?
