Football roundup: Central Mountain, Bucktail suffer tough losses in Week 7

TIM WEIGHT/For the Express Central Mountain's Gavin Heverly (2) returns a kickoff during a football game against Shamokin on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, at Malinak Stadium.

On Friday night, the Central Mountain and Bucktail football teams each endured tough losses in front of their respective home crowds, with the Wildcats falling to Montoursville, 44-0, and the Bucks falling to Keystone, 70-6. It was a tough Week 7 for each team, who will look to learn from the defeats as they try to bounce back in Week 8.

For Central Mountain (0-7), the loss came due to struggles in hindering Montoursville’s two-headed beast at running back and continued issues capitalizing offensively.

Senior running back Christian Banks totaled 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 attempts, good for an average of almost 12 yards per carry. And sophomore Hayden Harvey made the most of six carries, also attributing two touchdowns while rushing for 40 yards.

As a whole, the Warriors (6-1) rushed for 261 yards while averaging over eight yards per attempt. And though they rarely needed to pass, they saw success when they did, with Kingston Fisher turning two receptions into 79 yards and two scores to lead the way there.

Offensively, the Wildcats had success, totaling 208 yards and 125 through the air. They just never managed to impact the scoreboard, enduring their fourth shutout of 2025. Quarterbacks Kyle Everett and Alex Johnson combined to complete 11 of their 17 passes for 110 yards. Dalton McDermott led the team on the ground, turning 17 carries into 56 yards. And Ricky Rohrbach led the team receiving wise, with three receptions for 71 yards.

The loss puts Central Mountain at 0-7 on the season, with three chances left to avoid a winless campaign. It’s next chance there comes in its second-to-last home game, where it’ll play host to Mount Carmel (3-4).

For Bucktail (1-6), it had a hard time limiting turnovers and dealing with Keystone’s balanced offensive attack, as the Panthers totaled over 190 yards in both the run and pass game. The Corcetti brothers combined for 201 passing yards and four touchdowns on just five throws. And Keystone saw four different runners break off touchdown runs of 20 yards or more.

It did have offensive standouts, with Teagan Stone turning nine carries into 102 yards and a touchdown from under center. Jaden Intallura and Levi Stevenson combined for 67 yards on 19 attempts. And as a team, the Bucks picked up 12 first downs while keeping penalties to a minimum.

Bucktail returns home in Week 8, where it’s set to play host to another tough squad in Cameron County (5-2). The teams faced off earlier in the season in Week One, with the Raiders defeating the Bucks by a score of 54-6.
