Jersey Shore’s Girton wins district gold in Class AAA golf competition

At the District 4 golf championships at Williamsport Country Club, numerous golfers competed with the hope to advance to the state tournament.

And for Jersey Shore’s Carter Girton, that’s exactly how it played out for the Bulldog.

In Class AAA, Girton advanced to the state tourament with a gold medal.

Girton shot a 75 on the first day of competition and trailed Athens’ Eli Hicks by one stroke. On the second day, Girton played well and shot a 76, beating Hicks by two strokes to win district gold with a score of 151 to Hicks’ 152.

Jersey Shore’s Mason Heydrich took fifth after shooting a 169. He shot an 85 on the first day of competition and an 84 on the second day. Williamsport’s Waylon Edler was a seventh-place finisher with a 174 after shooting an 85 in round one and an 89 in round two.

North Penn-Mansfield’s Hermansen had a fantastic two days of competition in Class AA to win the district championship.

Hermansen shot an 81 in the first round and a 69 in the second round for a 150 to win the title. Mifflinburg’s Alexander Dietrich was second with a 154 and Mifflinburg’s Wilson Abram took third with a 155.

Warrior Run’s Max Wirnsberger shot a 157 to tie with Mifflinburg’s Kamdon Eicher for fourth. Wirnsberger shot an 81 in the first round and 77 in the second round.

Loyalsock’s Bryson Rankinen tied for eighth and was just shy of the top 7 cutoff to advance to the state tournament. Rankinen’s score was a 161, just one stroke shy of seventh place.

Rankinen shot an 82 in the first round and 79 in the second. Montoursville’s Bryce Carey shot a 162 for tenth.

Wellsboro’s Syler Pietrzyk shot a 163 for 11th with an 82 in the first round and 81 in the second. The only other area finisher to place 15th or better was Loyalsock’s Garrett Rankinen who took 14th after shooting an 85 on the first day of competition and 86 on the second for a 171 score.
