The Central Mountain Lady Wildcats hit the road Tuesday for a PHAC matchup with Shamokin, where the scoreboard wasn’t the only thing that caught attention… (and it’s malfunction).
Shamokin struck twice in the first half, giving the home side a 2-0 cushion that proved just enough to hold off the visiting Wildcats, although the second goal was more than likely scored by the visiting team. Central Mountain created several promising chances — with multiple players testing the keeper — but the finishing touch proved elusive. A few shots sailed high, a few went wide and a few were swallowed up by strong Shamokin goalkeeping.
The real twist came midway through the second half when play halted for an unexpected — and lengthy — milestone celebration. What was meant to be a brief announcement turned into nearly seven minutes of festivities, leaving the visiting team wondering if they should stretch again before restarting.
When the action resumed, the Lady Wildcats roared back with renewed pressure, pushing forward in search of a goal that never quite materialized. Though the net stayed stubbornly empty, the effort and energy didn’t fade.
Next up, the Wildcats return home Thursday for a tough test against PHAC I frontrunner Selinsgrove — a matchup that promises plenty of action (and hopefully fewer interruptions).

TIM WEIGHT/For the Express BEA goalkeeper Cami Walker secures a save during a game vs. P-O last week. Walker had 15 saves in a 5-0 loss to Hollidaysburg on Tuesday.
The Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team got three shots on goal while freshman goalkeeper Cami Walker notched a game-high 15 saves, but the Eagles fell to a strong Hollidaysburg team in shutout fashion, 5-0, at Alumni Stadium.
“Hollidaysburg is a good team. We put some good runs together against them, but could find that key pass in the attacking third,” said Bald Eagle Area girls soccer head coach Jared Moore on the loss. “We also made a few mistakes that Hollidaysburg took advantage of. Lilly Johnson had a strong performance on defense and cut down many drives that Hollidaysburg put together.”
Hollidaysburg’s 20 shots on goals proved too much to overcome, as the team fell to 3-10-1 on thes eason. It’ll look to bounce back on Thursday on the road at Bishop Guilfoyle (13-0).
Central Mountain girls volleyball swept Danville on Tuesday night behind set scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-10 to improve to 13-0 on the season. Next up for the Wildcats is their last regular season match on Monday when the host perennial state power West Branch. The match will serve as Central Mountain’s Pink Out and Youth Recognition night.
Montoursville earned a four-set win against Sugar Valley to improve to 6-7 in girls volleyball action on Tuesday night. Montoursville won the first set, 25-10 and the second, 25-20, before Sugar Valley won the third, 25-21. In the fourth set, Montoursville closed it out to win, 25-12.
