Local roundup: CM cross country sees success at Hughesville
The Central Mountain girls cross country team saw plenty of success in a meet at Hughesville, defeating Southern Columbia, 15-49, South Williamsport, 15-50, Mifflinburg, 20-39 and Muncy, 15-50, and falling to Hughesville, 30-25, to finish Tuesday 4-1.
Emma Wolfe (23:19.80) and Kaylie McCloskey (24:06.60) finished first and second for the Wildcats, and Abigail Winslow (25:07.30), Addison Knipe (26:09.60), and Elizabeth McCloskey (26:10.90) rounded out the top five for Central Mountain. With the performance, the team improved to 14-3 on the season.
On the boys side, the team saw similar success, defeating Southern Columbia, 16-47, South Williamsport, 17-46, Mifflinburg, 15-50, and Muncy, 18-45 and falling to Hughesville, 19-39, to wrap up Tuesday with a 4-1 record. Damien Winner posted a time of 18:48.70 to lead the Wildcats, finishing in third overall. With a PR of 19:02.80, Latrell Walker finished second for Central Mountain. And Shane Walker (19:26.50), Shayden Hill (20:07.90) and Che McAllister (20:27.50) rounded out the top five for the Wildcats, as the team improved to 13-4 on the year.
The Eagles got plenty of shot opportunities against Tyrone on Monday night, but couldn’t manage to connect on one, falling to the Golden Eagles in shutout fashion, 3-0. Of their 13 shots on goal, Tyrone’s Pyper Sparklin hindered all 13. Bald Eagle’s Cami Walker had a similar showing in goal, posting a game-high 15 saves.
“We dug ourselves a bit of a hole in the first 15 minutes and that is what ultimately cost us,” said Bald Eagle Area head coach Jared Moore on the loss. “We did create a lot of scoring chances, but shot the majority of them right at the keeper unfortunately.”
