Local roundup: CM girls soccer falls, honors Hawksworth for HOF

Sammy Roarty found the back of the net twice as Milton defeated Central Mountain, 4-0. Kat Bennage and Lexi Bergey each scored goals while Hayden Snyder had two assists and Maeve Ficks and Roarty had assists.

Milton maintained pressure throughout the first half and the Wildcats held their defensive shape and batlted to stay in the game. The Black Panthers out-shot Central Mountain, 20-2.

Central Mountain honored Hall of Fame inductee Sara Hawksworth after the game. She was part of a dominant run for the Wildcats in the mid-2000s that included three league championships and an undefeated streak in league play that stretched across three consecutive seasons. In her senior year, CM finished the season unbeaten before being narrowly upset in the district semifinals. She was 58-19-5 during four years.

Individually, Hawksworth built an equally decorated resume. She earned second-team All-League honors as a sophomore before being named First-Team All-League in both her junior and senior seasons. She was also a two-time PSCA All-State selection and received recognition as a Regional All-American. Hawksworth’s career remains a benchmark for Central Mountain soccer, remembered not only for the accolades and championships but also for the leadership and competitiveness she brought to the field. Sara graduated in 2009 and went on to study and play soccer at Mercyhurst.

Bald Eagle Area earned a tough 2-0 win over Penn Cambria thanks to Addison Tice and Savanna Albright both scoring. Albright had an assist as well. Bald Eagle Area scored one goal per half.

“What a gritty performance. PC put quite a bit of pressure on us in the first half, but Savanna Albright fed a nice through ball to Addie Tice and she buried it to give us a 1-0 lead going into the half,” Bald Eagle Area coach Jared Moore said. “The girls ground out a win. It was a tough second half and Savanna came through again, picking off a clearance in the PC end and blasting one home from 25 yards out.

“The defense was great tonight, led by Cami Walker in goal,” Moore added. “She made some key saves when we needed them. This was a great team win.”

Chesney Fetzer had 15 saves, but Jersey Shore fell to Troy, 7-0. Saydie Renzo had three assists for Troy and Alexis McRoberts and Kylee Roy each had two goals and an assist.

• Jersey Shore blanked Troy, 3-0. Dylan Hensler had two goals and an assist for the Bulldogs to lead the offense. Tyler Beck scored the Bulldogs’s third goal, all three of which came in the first half. Ezra Paulhamus and Gabe Welshans both had assists.
