Local roundup: Jersey Shore girls soccer falls to Muncy 3-1
After falling behind by a goal in the 10th minute, Muncy scored three goals — two by halftime — to defeat Jersey Shore, 3-1, and improve to 13-2-1 in girls soccer.
Ava Eyer had two goals and Kiki Woodward scored. Alexis McKeta, Rachel Paulhamus and Eyer all had assists.
The Bulldogs’ goal came 9 minutes, 11 seconds into the game on a Rees Bierly goal on an assist by Leena Loomis.
• Lock Haven men’s cross country standout Jakob Rager has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men’s cross country Athlete of the Week.
The honor is the first PSAC weekly award for the Bald Eagles this season. The Bald Eagles, ranked No. 7 team in the Atlantic Region, finished second of 16 teams in the Highlander Invitational on Saturday morning.
Leading the way for Lock Haven was Rager, who finished third after covering the 8,000-meter course with a blazing time of 24:49.9.
• Lock Haven opened a week-long homestand with an emphatic victory over Bloomsburg in women’s volleyball. Lock Haven won the match 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-16) on Tuesday (Oct. 14). It was the second time the Bald Eagles defeated Bloomsburg on the season, improving to 3-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division play.
The Bald Eagles opened the match strong, outscoring Bloomsburg 25-17, with 14 kills and two blocks in the first set.
Not much changed in the second set, 14 kills, three blocks and four service aces led Lock Haven to a 25-21 score.
Lock Haven closed out the match with a dominant final frame. Putting the Huskies away with a 25-16 score, behind 14 kills and 3 service aces.
Maddie Mitchell led the Bald Eagles’ attack with 12 kills in the contest. Lola Coulter also added nine kills to the Lock Haven offense, followed by eight more from Gracelynn Wolzen.
