Local roundup: Walker’s 21 saves not enough to lead BEA girls soccer past Central

Though Cami Walker’s play in goal helped the Eagles stay within striking distance on Thursday, two second-half goals for Central put them in too big of a hole, as they fell at home, 3-1. Walker finished with 21 saves while Savanna Albright got Bald Eagle on the board on an assist from Addie Tice. The team will look to finish the season strong in its season finale against Penns Valley on Thursday.

“Central is a good team and moved the ball well on us and kept pressure on us all game,” said BEA head coach Jared Moore on the performance. “If we could have held possession a little more, it would have made a difference tonight.”

“Cami Walker was outstanding tonight in goal for us. She made diving save after diving save,” he added on Walker.

The Wildcats hosted Bloomsburg for a non-league match, with the seniors playing their final home game in Malinak Stadium. The Panthers jumped to a two-goal lead in the first and notched two more in the second to win the game, 4-0. Central Mountain will look to bounce back in its season final at Montoursville on Thursday.

Olivia Hudson scored the game-winning goal late in the second half and Megan Miller recorded a clean sheet in goal to lift the Lock Haven women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over East Stroudsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Hubert Jack Stadium on Wednesday night. The victory is the first win for The Haven over East Stroudsburg since 2018.

After a scoreless 78 minutes, Hudson found the back of the net off a screamer to the upper-right 90 of the goal off an assist from Lauren Straub. The Haven finished with a game-high 14 shots and four corners. Maci Shaffer led the Bald Eagles with four shots, including two on goal. Hudson finished with three shots, all on goal, and her team-leading second goal of the season.

As she did all night long, Miller remained strong in net for the final 12 minutes to help Lock Haven seal the victory. Miller finished with a game-high six saves and is now just four saves away from breaking the Lock Haven all-time career saves record.
