LHU looks for win No. 6 today vs. Shepherd

Lock Haven handled Millersville with ease last week, 42-7, to improve to 5-4 and move above .500. And with two games remaining, Lock Haven is hoping to do something it hasn’t done since 1981: have a winning season.

A win on Saturday against Shepherd or on Nov. 15 against Gannon secures Lock Haven’s first winning season in 44 years. That year Lock Haven went 6-5.

Last week against Millersville, Jackson Ostrowsky threw for 329 yards and the Bald Eagles led 21-0 at halftime. Defensively, the Bald Eagles stifled Millersville’s offense. Caileb Howse threw for just 105 yards and Millersville’s top running back (Mekhi Ashby) was limited to only 83 yards.

Davien Vernon, Raheem Reid, Kuhron Walker and LucRichard Rameau each had a tackle for loss and Rhys McDonald and Blake Griesemer combined for one. The Bald Eagles also recorded four sacks, one each from Vernon, Reid and Walker, and both Wawlker and Elijah Alexandre had forced fumbles.

Ostrowsky has continued to impress at quarterback as he has 1,860 yards with 14 touchdowns and has only thrown four interceptions. He averages 232.5 yards per game as well. Ezequiel Johnson leads the Bald Eagles with 316 yards on the ground and Damir Green has 302.

The Bald Eagles have never beaten Shepherd as they enter today’s matchup 0-5 all-time since regularly playing the Rams beginning in 2019. Last year the Bald Eagles came up just shy, falling 45-38.

Shepherd is 5-4 entering Saturday’s game and the Rams are riding a five-game winning streak. After a 49-10 lopsided loss to Kutztown on Sept. 27, the Rams have beaten Millersville (38-23), West Chester (28-24), Bloomsburg (37-13), East Stroudsburg (26-23) and Shippensburg (48-7).

Last week, Shepherd ran for an impressive 308 yards as a team, averaging 6.7 per carry. The Bald Eagles know they’ll need to play solid run defense against Shepherd.

Shepherd had just 166 passing yards last week as the ground game did much of the work. Jordan Barnett ran for 162 yards and averaged 10.8 per carry for Shepherd last Saturday while Jabril Daniels ran for 69 yards.

Barnett is having a solid season as a running back as he leads Shepherd with 997 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns while Grant Swinehart has rushed for 527 and four scores.

Michael Hardyway has been impressive at quarterback as he has 1,865 passing yards this year with 12 touchdowns and only four picks.

Starting at $3.69/week.
