Defense powers LHU men’s hoops to dominant win over PSU Hazleton

The Lock Haven men’s basketball team held visiting Penn State-Hazleton to 16 percent shooting from the field to soar to a 72-37 victory in non-conference action in front of the home crowd in Thomas Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season and 3-0 at home. Lock Haven has also won two games in a row, both in Thomas Fieldhouse. Penn State-Hazleton fell to 2-2.

Lock Haven outscored the Nittany Lions 34-11 in the second half, while holding Hazelton to 8 percent (3-of-27) shooting to run away with the victory. The Bald Eagles finished with eight blocks, led by three from DeAndre Seeden in just five minutes of action. The Haven defense finished also finished with a game-high 14 steals, led by four from Keith Warren.

Warren also finished with a team-high 16 points, behind four makes from behind the arch. Warren added a game-high six assists. Luke Kennevan joined Warren in double-figures as he finished with 14 points on an efficient 5-of-6 night shooting. Dean-Coleman Newsome pulled in a team-high eight rebounds, while Devon Nelson and Dyllon Scott each added six boards.

Lock Haven carried a 38-26 advantage into the break after knocking down a game-high eight trifectas, including four from Warren, who led all scorers with 16 points in the half. Hazleton knocked down just two triples in the opening 20 minutes, but stayed in the game by outscoring The Haven 8-2 at the charity stripe.

Lock Haven is set to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East vs. West play on Saturday at 3 p.m. when it hosts Edinboro at Thomas Fieldhouse.
