Penn State football draws Clemson in Pinstripe Bowl

TIM WEIGHT/For the Express Penn State football players break a huddle during a college football game against Nebraska on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at Beaver Stadium in State College. The Nittany Lions will face Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27.

Penn State’s bowl assignment was confirmed Sunday, and the Nittany Lions will match up with Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Saturday, Dec. 27.

It’s a noon kickoff for ABC.

Like the Nittany Lions (6-6), Clemson was among the nation’s most disappointing teams.

The Tigers were ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press preseason poll, but lost three of their first four games.

Dabo Swinney’s team, however, rebounded to win their last four and finished 7-5 on the season.

Penn State played in the 2014 Pinstripe Bowl, defeating Boston College, 31-30, to close out James Franklin’s first season.

Franklin was fired on Oct. 12, and Iowa State coach Matt Campbell was hired on Friday to replace him.

PSU interim coach Terry Smith has been retained by Campbell to be the Lions’ associate head coach (Smith is signing a four-year contract) and will be in charge of the Nittany Lions vs. Clemson.

Campbell is starting to assemble his staff.

It was reported Sunday that Campbell is bringing his defensive coordinator, Jon Heacock, with him along with offensive line coach Ryan Clanton.

In another development, former Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry, an Altoona native, is joining Franklin’s staff as defensive coordinator.

Pry served in the same capacity at Penn State (2016-21) before becoming the Hokies’ head coach in 2022. He was fired earlier this season.

Starting at $3.69/week.
