On Tuesday night, the Central Mountain girls wrestling team played host to District 6 foe Bald Eagle Area looking to get back to .500 in dual competition in its first dual in over three weeks.

Though the Eagles finished the contest with three competitive victories to Central Mountain’s one, the Wildcats’ numbers helped them prevail. Junior Kaitlyn Scarborough-Perez picked up a decisive fall at 124 and six wins by forfeit did the rest, as the Wildcats won, 42-21, to improve to 4-4 on the season.

For Central Mountain, MeiLin Talbot (118), Sarah Lavallee (136), Alana Rhodes (142), Austynn Falls (148), Kendall Wagner (170) and Ashlyn Miller (190) won by forfeit. The Eagles saw one win by forfeit in Ariana Mayes (100).

“Last year, we lost a lot of matches simply because we couldn’t fill weight classes, and we had four contested matches tonight,” said Central Mountain girls wrestling head coach Dylan Caprio when discussing the team’s improved numbers.

“Obviously, we gave up a decision and two falls, but I told the girls that the effort level was there. It’s just experience and some mistakes we have to clean up.”

Up a weight class compared to her usual at 118, Scarborough-Perez wasted little time establishing early advantage against Bald Eagle Area’s Cami Walker.

Out of a neutral reset 30 seconds into the bout, she pushed Walker back before bringing her down for a quick takedown. From there, it wouldn’t take long for the junior to turn that position into a fall, securing it at 58 seconds and giving the Wildcats a 15-12 lead.

“She went out there, got the first takedown and got right to her half,” said Caprio on Scarborough-Perez. “She does a great job with technique.”

Alongside her sister, senior Emma Scarborough-Perez also shined on Tuesday. Though she fell to returning regional qualifier Lily Spicer by 3-2 decision, it was a match she was very much in until the end, as she bounced back from an early takedown and made it a one-point bout with a second-period reversal.

Both sisters come out of the match with winning records on the campaign, with Kaitlyn at 3-2 and Emma at 6-4.

“Just their work ethic, focus and helpfulness with their teammates,” said Caprio when discussing what he’s been impressed with when it comes to the sisters.

“They’ve been around for a little while. Sometimes (Emma) goes out there on her heels, but I think she’s becoming more sure of herself, which helps with her going out there and getting after it.”

Outside of the sisters, the two other Wildcats to take the mat were first-year wrestlers Sadie Caris and Kennedy Metzger. Though the pair struggled against strong BEA wrestlers, Caprio was proud of what they put out there on the mat.

“That was Metzger’s first match back after being injury for a while. She went right after it, and I was proud of her,” said Caprio on Metzger. “(Caris) went out there against a girl that’s pretty talented and in her match, I was glad she wasn’t backing down. She went out and fired off a shot.”

For Bald Eagle Area, its lack of numbers is tough to combat in a dual setting, but it showcased the potential of what could end up being a sturdy foundation.

TIM WEIGHT/For the Express Central Mountain's Kennedy Metzger wrestles Bald Eagle's Aiyana Henninger during a girls wrestling dual on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at Central Mountain. The Wildcats won 42-21.

At 112 against Central Mountain’s Sadie Caris, Tice took advantage of an early shot attempt from her opponent, establishing advantage, getting Caris off balance and bringing her down for an early takedown. From there, it took just a few more seconds for her to secure a pin, finalizing it at 36 seconds.

And in the match’s final competitive bout at 130, Aiyana Henninger kept up what’s been a strong freshman campaign. Out of a standing position in neutral, she’d take down Central Mountain’s Kennedy Metzger before Metzger dragged her out of bounds. Then, out of top, she’d stifle an escape attempt before flipping Metzger to her back for a first-period pin.

As it stands, both wrestlers possess winning records, with Tice at 17-7 and Henninger at 11-7. Neither has a win by forfeit on the season.

“Really excited with the improvement of our underclassmen,” said Bald Eagle girls wrestling head coach Ed Hockenberry when discussing that foundation. “They’re working hard and make a heck of a commitment to doing what they’ve got to do to get better, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about their commitment.”

Apart from its underclassmen, senior Lily Spicer also shined on Tuesday night.

In the match’s most exciting bout against Emma Scarborough-Perez, Spicer saw her early 3-0 cushion fall to one and spent much of the match on bottom. But with strong defense and consistent wrestling, she kept Scarborough-Perez from turning her while avoiding a stall call, holding her 3-2 lead through a tense final period.

“Really happy with her production and her keeping her base and not getting turned,” said Hockenberry. “That was a regional-level match, and they might see each other again.”

The Eagles return to action on Thursday, hosting Huntingdon at 7 p.m. And for Central Mountain, its next action comes on Saturday, where it’ll compete in the Queen of the Dam tournament at DuBois.
