Jersey Shore swimmers have success at Arctic Swim Classic
Jersey Shore’s boys and girls swimming teams competed on Saturday at the Arctic Swim Classic at Clearfield and saw success throughout various events. As a team, Jersey Shore took fourth in the girls results with 126 points and trailed only Brookville (407), Hollidaysburg (202) and DuBois (200). The Jersey Shore boys finished in 10th with 20 points.
Jersey Shore’s best finisher was freshman Emily Shemory, who took second place in the girls 50 free behind only Brookville’s Ashlyn Clark, who swam a time of 25.88. Shore’s Sierra Derr took 17th in the event in 29.39 and fellow Bulldog Addison Miller was 30th in 32.66.
“The swimmers had a wonderful day. You could tell from the looks on their faces as they finished that they were proud of their results,” Jersey Shore coach Sara Fisher said. “They are all had workers and their hard work is paying off. I think this meet helped boost their confidence and it will continue wtih them moving forward.”
Lila Nestlerode was a fourth-place finisher in the girls 200 free as she swam a time of 2:16.18. In the same event, Rhian Prowell was 16th with a time of 2:35.33. Nestlerode was also a fifth-place finisher in the girls 100 free with a time of 1:00.93. Her time was just under a second from taking third from Olivia Imbrogno of DuBois. Nestlerode started with a first split of 28.93 in the race.
In that same event, Shemory was sixth in 1:01.40 and Makayla Wrench finished 18th in 1:06.35.
As a team, Jersey Shore’s Nestlerode, Sierra Derr, Macy Wilton and Shemory swam together in the 200 free relay and had a solid performance to take second place in 1:53.38. The foursome trailed only Brookville, which won the event in 1:50.71.
In the girls 200 medley relay, Jersey Shore’s team of Shemory, Prowell, Wilton and Nestlerode took fifth wtih a time of 2:10.61.
Wilton was a fifth-place finisher in the girls 100 fly in 1:12.37, roughly half a second behind DuBois’ Jasmine Stevenson who took fourth in 1:11.89. Wilton also took home a fifth-place finish in the girls 100 back with a time of 1:09.20. Addison Miller swam the event as well and took 17th in 1:25.06.
Prowell took 10th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:23.97 and Derr took 15th in 1:27.51.
In the girls 400 free relay, Jersey Shore’s team of Derr, Miller, Prowell and Wrench swam a time of 4:33.19 to take seventh in the event.
Jersey Shore had a pair of top-15 finishers in the boys 50 ree as senior Jaden Passetti was 12th with a time of 27.11 followed by sophomore Nathan Klugh, who took 13th in 27.54.
The Bulldogs’ Nathan Grant was a 15th-place finisher in the boys 100 free as he swam a time f 1:05.09. Grant was the top finisher in boys competition for Jersey Shore with his fifth-place finish in the 100 back in 1:14.65, just 0.19 seconds from taking fourth.
Passetti swam a time of 1:12.76 to finish in sixth in the boys 100 breast. Teammate Klugh competed but was disqualified.
