Local roundup: Jersey Shore girls defeat Danville

Jersey Shore limited Danville to two fourth-quarter points en route to a 38-29 win against the Ironmen in girls basketball on Friday night.

Marley Lehman scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs as Avery Depasqua added seven and Sadie Schall scored six.

The Bulldogs and Ironmen were knotted up at 13 all after the first quarter and Danville held a 21-18 lead going into the break. Shore narrowed the deficit to 27-26 before a 12-2 advantage in the fourth sealed Danville’s victory. Cece Coombe scored 19 for the Ironmen.

Penns Valley secured a dominating 52-17 win on the road at Bellefonte on Friday as Paige Johnson scored 16 points and Ellie Romig and Elle Dinges contributed 11 each.

The win moves Penns Valley to 7-4.

The Rams held a 23-5 lead after the first quarter and led 43-9 by halftime as Bellefonte’s offense struggled to put up points, being limited to single digits all four quarters.

• Ousmane Duncanson brought home silver at 165 pounds to headline three placewinners for the Lock Haven men’s wrestling team at the David H. Lehman F&M Open, hosted by Franklin & Marshall.

Duncanson led the way with a second-place finish, while Nick Stampoulos (157 pounds) and Nick Kunstek (165) placed third and sixth, respectively.

Duncanson soared to the 165 finals with a 4-0 start, including a pair of falls (6:47 & 1:46), a major decision (10-2) and a decision (4-2). Duncanson was edged out by Virginia Tech’s Ryan Burton by a 7-6 decision in the championship bout.

In similar fashion, Stampoulos won four consecutive matches to reach the semifinals, before dropping a 7-2 decision to George Mason’s DJ Mcgee. Stampoulos bounced back with a 9-1 major decision in the third-place bout and finished the day with two tech falls (18-3 & 21-5), a fall (1:40).

Kunstek rounded out the point scorers for Lock Haven after reaching the fifth-place round thanks to a pair of major decisions (13-5 and 15-5) and a decision. Kunstek fell to Logan Fowler (Air Force) in the fifth-place bout.

Sean Louge (133) finished 4-2 with a decision, major decision (12-0) and a pair of falls at 1:57 and 5:24.

Lucas Fye also competed at 133 and finished 2-2 with a decision and tech fall (18-2).
