Despite hanging with Selinsgrove through the first half, trailing by just three points entering the break, a rough third quarter held the Jersey Shore boys basketball team back on the road Monday night. The Seals outscored the Bulldogs 21-10 through the period, using that surge hand Shore its second straight loss, 56-42.

Selinsgrove’s Xavier Jackson led all scorers with 27 points, proving crucial through that game-changing third quarter and from the free-throw line through the fourth. For the Bulldogs, Carson Watkins and Ty McDermit finished with ten each, and Khani McCray added nine with the help with two treys.

In a tough boys basketball matchup against District 6 power Bishop Guilfoyle, it didn’t take long for things to get out of hand for Bald Eagle Area. The Marauders used two 24-point quarters to get out a 48-17 lead by halftime, dominating every step of the way to defeat the Eagles, 80-27.

James Cowan led the way for Bald Eagle with eight points while Kane Wolf and Nolan Butterworth each came away with a trey. On the other end, ten players scored for Bishop Guilfoyle, who were led by Taurean Consiglio with 16.

In girls basketball, Penns Valley endured a gutwrenching loss at the hands of Tyrone, falling to the Golden Eagles, 53-51, and seeing its four-game win streak come to an end. The Rams tied it up at 30-30 through two and outscored Tyrone 13-10 in the fourth, but a 13-8 third quarter from the Golden Eagles gave them the edge.

Penns Valley was led by three double-figure scorers, with Elle Dinges scoring a team-high 14 points with the help of two treys and Jordan Johnson and Paige Johnson adding 11 and ten respectively. Tyrone’s Claire Lehman led all scorers on the night with 15.
