HUNTINGDON – Strong first and third quarters, fiery shooting from behind the arc and five double-figure scorers gave Penns Valley boys basketball a sound shot at winning on Wednesday night. However, Huntingdon matched much of that success and made the difference in the fourth, outscoring the Rams 20-10 in the final stanza to win, 68-64.
Fletcher Ironside led the way for Penns Valley, scoring 13 points – 11 which came through the first half. Julian Battaglia and Spencer Althouse contributed 11 each, with Battaglia hitting three treys. And Noah Patel and Austin Fetterolf finished scoring ten, with Carter Ironside rounding out the team’s scoring with nine.
For Huntingdon, three Bearcats contributed 15 points in Kobe Cartheon, Elliot Guisler, and Caleb Rutter, while Cole Lane led the way in the post with 17. Though the Rams thwarted them 8-3 from three, Huntingdon post presence netted it the opportunities it needed.
The loss drops the Rams down to 10-5 on the season. They return to action on Friday, playing host to Bishop Guilfoyle at 7:30 p.m.
