Strong start propels Jersey Shore girls basketball past Midd-West on road

MIDDLEBURG – In its second game in the same number of days, the Jersey Shore girls basketball team certainly got the ball rolling early. It used an 18-1 run through the first quarter’s entirety to propel itself forward, never looking back on its way to a 44-23 win over Midd-West on the road Thursday.

Marlee Lehman added another bullet point to her successful campaign, scoring 13 points to lead the Bulldogs. Leena Loomis contributed nine to follow her up, Avery Depasqua added eight behind two triples and Shore posted two more double-figure quarters before getting the reserves more involved in the fourth.

The victory marked the tenth of the season for the Bulldogs, who improved to 10-6 on the season and 6-2 in Heartland-I play. It also marked their third in a row and fourth in their last five.

They’ll look to make it four in a row on Saturday, as they host the top team in the HAC-I in Shikellamy. That game is set for 7:15 p.m.
