Strong fourth propels Bald Eagle boys past rival Bellefonte on road

BELLEFONTE – After a neck-and-neck thriller through three quarters, something had to give in Monday’s rivalry matchup between Bald Eagle and Bellefonte boys basketball. The Eagles had a lead, but just a one-point one, as the Red Raiders hung around every step of the way.
The game appeared destined for overtime. But in the fourth, it was Bald Eagle that was able to break away. The Eagles used a 18-point quarter to down their rival, 48-40, with key contributions from Luke Hosband and James Cowan helping them finish the job.
Hosband scored six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. James Cowan matched his final-stanza total, finishing with a game-high 16 points and scoring 12 of those in the second half. Jackson Millward and Kane Wolf notched a pair of threes each, and Jayden Yeaney added four points.
On Bellefonte’s end, it was able to hang around largely thanks to the three. The team hit at least one three in every quarter, finishing with seven treys on the night.
John Servant and Quinn Eckley Jones hit three threes each, finishing with 15 and 12 points respectively to lead the way for the Red Raiders. Grayson Coons rounded out the team’s three-pointers with one in the third. And Daxton Kreiger and Logan Gibson both finished with four points.
During the event, five Bellefonte seniors – Servant, Eckley-Jones, Amryn Carson, Evan Gramley and Brayden Cramer – were honored for Bellefonte’s Senior Night. The Red Raiders close out the season with Teacher Appreciation night against Mifflin County on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
For the Eagles, their return to action comes on Tuesday at Hollidaysburg. Then, they’ll close out the campaign with another road contest against Philipsburg-Osceola on Thursday. Both those games are set for 7:30 p.m.
