Bellefonte softball scores 8 unanswered in opener, defeats Central, 8-3

BELLEFONTE – On Thursday afternoon, the Bellefonte softball team opened its 2025-26 season with a home contest against Laurel Highlands foe Central. In terms of kick offs, it kicked things off on a high note, scoring eight unanswered runs through the first four innings on its way to an 8-3 victory.
Within that run, the Red Raiders were most active from the jump, scoring four runs in the first inning to quickly set the tone. From there, they’d add two in the second and a run each in the third and fourth, creating an eight-run cushion that wouldn’t be threatened.
Sophomore shortstop Sloan Moore led the way offensively, logging three hits and a run. Riley Santostefano went 1-for-4 from the plate but her lone hit was a two-RBI homer, and catcher Ella Herr logged three RBIs on two hits, including a double.
From the mound, sophomore Adrienne Masullo pitched a five-inning, two-hit gem, surrendering just three walks while pitching five scoreless innings and striking out eight batters. In relief, Abby Herr had a tough seventh inning but managed to finish the job, striking out three in the process.
With the win, the Red Raiders start the season off with a 1-0 record. They’ll look to keep the win streak alive on Friday, hosting Bishop Carroll at 4:30 p.m. at O’Leary Fields.
