Bellefonte track and field sees success in home meet

On Saturday, the Bellefonte track and field teams hosted Selinsgrove, Brookville, East Juniata and St. Joseph’s Catholic in a home meet at Rogers Stadium. Though cold weather was a factor, the Red Raiders still put together strong performances on both sides.

On the girls side, Bellefonte defeated Brookville (94-51) and East Juniata (120-27) handedly, falling just short against Selinsgrove (82-68) in pursuit of a sweep. The boys team defeated East Juniata 121-25 but fell to Selinsgrove (92-52) and Brookville (91-58).

Bellefonte’s success on the girls side was headlined by two broken Rogers Stadium records.

In taking first in the 400-meter run, junior Althea Helms broke a home-venue record with a 59.95. And Bellefonte’s 3,200 relay, featuring Helms, Anna Tyson, Natalie Jolley and Addison Fry, broke the Rogers Stadium record with a 9:56.93.

Helms rounded out her success by taking second in the long jump with a 15-6, finishing with three top-two performances on the day. A fair share of Red Raiders joined her in headlining the team.

On the track, Addison Fry finished in first in the 1,600 with a 5:33.36, headlining a strong day for Bellefonte’s distance crew. Natalie Jolley took second in the 3,200 with a 12:00.89 while Anna Tyson (2:37.27) and Madyson Miller (2:39.69) took second and third in the 800.

In the field, Madyson Miller added two top-five finishes in the triple and long jump, taking first in the triple with a 32-0 and fifth in the long (14-1).

Freshman Kaylee Knepp (4-8), Anna Tyson (4-8) and Emma Holsinger (4-4) made up the top three slots in the high jump, with Knepp adding a fourth place showing in the long jump (14-6 1/2). And Victoria Schellenberg rounded out the team’s first place showings by taking first in the pole vault (10-0).
