LHU baseball drops pair of games to California
The Lock Haven baseball team hosted a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West doubleheader against visiting California (Pa.), dropping a pair of high-scoring affairs, 11-6 and 15-9.
Lock Haven falls to 4-16 (1-4), while the Vulcans improve to 14-7 (5-1).
The Vulcans used a six-run third inning to jump out to a comfortable lead early in game one.
Lock Haven was finally able to answer, down 10-0 to this point, and erupted for their own six-run inning.
An RBI single from Gardner Fravel, a bases loaded walk from Jerry Lambert, and an RBI groundout from Braden Cummings were enough for The Haven to scratch across their first three runs of the inning. Zachary McEllroy then hit a mammoth three-run blast to cap off the frame.
However, the early Vulcan lead proved to be too much as Cal closed out the victory.
In game two, Lock Haven got off to a hot start, scoring all nine of their runs in the first three stanzas.
However, the California bats continued to pave the way as the Vulcans used 15 hits to plate 15 runs to run away with the sweep.
Tom Rohan (3 for 4, RBI) was the lone multi-hit Bald Eagle.
Cummings (1 for 4, BB, 2 RBI, SB) and Fravel (1 for 3, BB, 2 RBI) each came up clutch for Lock Haven.
Brady Myers came in for relief, as the sophomore pitched 3.2 innings, allowed two earned runs, and struck out four.
