Allegretto’s three runs lift Penns Valley baseball past rival Bald Eagle

SPRING MILLS – While the top of the order is often more relied upon, sometimes, the defining spark comes from the bottom.

Rylan Allegretto – No. 7 in Penns Valley baseball’s batting lineup – provided just that on Wednesday afternoon. Against Centre County foe Bald Eagle, the Ram went 3-for-3 with two extra-base hits and three trips home, leading Penns Valley to a 6-4 win.

The win marked the first for the Rams (1-2) this season, who opened with two losses. Bald Eagle (2-3) fell back below .500 with the loss.

Of Allegretto’s three hits, all three proved impactful. His first – a leadoff double – eventually led to his first run, which gave the Rams a 3-2 lead.

He again broke the tie in the third with a one-shot homer. Then, in the team’s most pivotal sequence, he’d log an RBI single before getting home for his third and final time, upping the team’s lead to an insurmountable 6-3.

Apart from Allegretto, Isaac Harpster, Parker Feltenberger and Kaleb Nixon each logged multiple hits, all three of which played a role in Penns Valley’s two-run first. Feltenberger was also solid from the mound, striking out two and allowing three runs through six innings pitched.

For Bald Eagle, the team did a decent job rolling with the punches early. Twice, it managed to respond to even the score before Penns Valley’s cushion became inpenetrable late.

Teagan Runkle and Takoda Ripka each posted multiple hits. A two-RBI double from Greyson Music gave the team an early spark, tying it up at 2-2. And an RBI walk from Hayden Stimer tied it at 3-3 in the third.

Barring weather issues, each team is set to return to action on Thursday, with Penns Valley hosting Huntingdon and Bald Eagle traveling to West Branch Both games are set for 4:30 p.m.
