MILL HALL — Timmy Bittner of nearby Beech Creek thrilled the hometown crowd by claiming the season opener for the RaceSaver Sprints at the Clinton County Speedway. Cory Long of Selinsgrove won the pro stocks feature, Lucas Parker of Saver won the 270 micros and Larry Beachel of New Columbia won the four cylinders.
Polesitter John Braim, of Turbotville, took the green at the drop of the green flag with Jacob Gamola moved into the second spot. Sixth-place starter Timmy Bittner quickly moved into second place by the completion of lap two. By lap 10, Braim was leading Bittner, Gamola, Josh Fox of State College and Ryan Lynn of Hollidaysburg.
As Braim encountered lapped traffic, he was able to distance himself from Bittner by a few car lengths. In the following laps Bittner would reel him back in looking for a way to make a pass. On lap 19 the opportunity occurred, as Briam bobbled in Turn 2 allow Bittner to charge underneath him to take lead as the leaders were encountered lapped traffic.
With a few laps remaining, the caution flag waived, providing Bitner with a clear racetrack, but also allowing Braim a chance to regain the lead with a restart. Coming back to the green flag, Bitner led Braim, Gamola, Jeffrey Weaver, and Josh Fox. Bittner crossed the line first to claim his first win of the season followed by Braim, Gamola, Weaver and Fox. At the midpoint of the race, Hoffman was getting pressure from AY Shilling and Ronnie Ergot, but the top five began to string out with Long continued to count down the laps. Long earned the win over, Hoffman, Schiling, Ergott and Marc Bittler.
In 270 micro sprint action, third-place starter Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven took command of the field by the completion the first lap. By lap five, Weaver was leading Mason McAndrew, Cory Stabley, Parker Lewis and Mac Wert. Stabley moved into second place by the completion of lap six. Weaver appeared to be on his to victory, when his car stopped on the back stretch with mechanical issues, giving the lead to Stabley.
Stabley would leave the next four laps and on the white flag lap his car stopped to bring out the caution. Lucas Parker inherited the lead and earned his first win at the speedway.
