LHU softball ranked in first edition of 2026 NCAA Atlantic Region top-10
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven softball team was named a top-10 team in the NCAA DII Atlantic Region poll after the organization released its first set of region rankings on Wednesday afternoon.
The NCAA regional rankings are annually used to determine the teams that qualify for the NCAA Division II Softball Championships.
This is the first of three editions of the regional rankings before the announcement of the tournament field. Each set of rankings includes all games played through the previous Sunday.
Following the completion of the regular season and conference tournaments, eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the 2026 NCAA Division II Softball Championships. Per the NCAA, teams will participate at each regional site in a double-elimination tournament. The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites.
The Atlantic Region is comprised of the 17 teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the 10 teams in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the 13 teams in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in addition to independent school Salem (41 total teams).
The Atlantic Region Championships will feature three automatic qualifiers – the tournament champions from the PSAC, MEC and CIAA – and five at-large selections.
The PSAC East leads all conferences across Division II with six teams ranked in the top-10.
Starting on April 3, the Bald Eagles went on a stretch where the club won 12 of 13 games to vault into first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings.
After sweeping Mansfield on Tuesday, The Haven is now 25-17 on the season and 15-11 in the PSAC East. The Bald Eagles are currently in third place in the East and are tied for second in the win column with Shippensburg.
The Haven is 23-17 vs. teams in the region, 13-8 vs. teams above .500 in the region, while its RPI ranks ninth.
The Bald Eagles return home to Lawrence Field on Friday and will host Bloomsburg in a PSAC East doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Military & Veterans Appreciation Day.
