WINGATE – The Bald Eagle Area baseball team was hoping to advance to the District 6 Class AAA championship as they hosted Tyrone on Friday afternoon. It was a team that the Eagles were more than familiar with as the home team defeated the Golden Eagles, 11-8, in a close regular-season Laurel Highlands contest.
However, though the Eagles battled through to their last out, the Golden Eagles would take the contest as they defeated Bald Eagle Area, 12-4, at Bald Eagle’s Doc Etters Field.
Bald Eagle went with Teagun Runkle on the mound while Tyrone went with hurler Carter Price.
Offensively, Runkle was the lone Eagle with multiple hits as he finished his night with a 2-for-4 effort.
Tyrone was able to find the gaps offensively as the finished with 14 hits while Bald Eagle Area tallied six. The Golden Eagles finished with four multiple hitters in their 14-hit night. They were Braydon Parsons (4-for-5 3 RBIs, run), Conner Zupon (3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Branden Plummer (2-for-4, run, RBI) and Colton Frye 2-for-3 2 runs).

“That’s what we want to be known for, giving it our all. You know, the grit and the termination of what we do. We’ve had success here. So we know what it looks like,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Ryan McNamara on the effort. “You can’t hang gold medals every year, but I’m proud of these kids to flip it from 4-15 last year to a No. 2 seed and 15-6 this year.”
“It’s a testament to their work, and the seniors’ leadership, to come into the season with a different focus, and lead these young guys here. We gave it our all,” he added.
In the top of the first inning, Tyrone’s leadoff hitter Braydon Parsons singled to start things for the Golden Eagles. Jon Stroup moved Parsons to third on a double in the gap. Wyatt Kustaberger brought in Parsons on a RBI sacrifice fly to center, and Conner Zupon brought in Stroup as he placed a line drive down the third baseline for a double.
Conner McClure advanced Zupon to third on a sacrifice fly. Zupon scored on a past ball, upping the Tyrone lead to 3-0 before Runkle struck out Owen Oakes to end the inning.
With one out, Luke Hosband got the offense started for Bald Eagle, hustling out an infield single. Kaleb Irion followed with a walk, putting runners on first and second.

Ninth batter Branden McClure followed with a walk. A Parsons blast to right field scored Frye and moved McClure to third.
With one out, the Golden Eagles loaded the bases. McClure scored on a Bald Eagle error off the bat of Zupon before the Eagles halted continued damage.
Trailing 5-0 going into the bottom of the second, the Bald Eagle was looking for a rally of their own. Drew Nagle led off with a walk. But Tyrone ended things on a double play.

Bald Eagle got on the board in the third when Runkle blasted an RBI single to right, allowing teammate Luke Hosband to score, cutting the deficit to 7-1.
Tyrone was able to put the Bald Eagle on the brink of finishing the game early as they led 12-1 with two outs in the fifth.
Standing one out away from elimination, the Eagles would rally to get two runs across the plate to extend the game back to seven 12-3. They would add another one later to pull within eight. But it wasn’t meant on this night as the Tyrone defense closed things down.
Bald Eagle Area finished their 2026 campaign with a 15-6 record.
