Jersey Shore’s postseason success continued this past weekend. After seeing the team reach the PIAA team tournament final, Jersey Shore saw success in the doubles and singles tournament at states.

In the singles tournament, the Bulldogs Ryder Fink, a senior, reached the state quarterfinals before losing to eventual state champion Max Henson, a Belle Vernon senior.

Fink beat Josiah Antram of Somerset, a senior, in the first round in quick fashion, 6-0, 6-0. In the second round, Fink picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Boiling Springs freshman Landon Lubart. He fell to Henson in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-3. Henson would go on to earn a three-set victory Archbishop Carroll’s Eric Roedl Jr., 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, to win the state championship.

In the doubles action, it was Saul Hensler and Ezra Paulhamus of Jersey Shore who reached the second round of the state tournament.

In the first round, the District 4 doubles champions secured a 6-2, 6-2 win against Bedford’s Owen Trimeloni and Evan Schrum, the District 5 champions. The Bulldogs’ doubles team suffered a second-round loss, however, to David Schnatz and Sullivan Stringer of Berks Catholic, the District 3 runners up, 6-4, 6-2. That Berks Catholic pair would end up taking third in the state tournament. Cathedral Prep’s Gavin Ferretti and Charbel Moubarak won the state title.

This year was the best single season in Jersey Shore boys tennis history. The team won the District 4 title and reached the state tournament final, losing to Cathedral Prep, 3-0. Fink won his second consecutive District 4 singles title, the first Bulldog to ever accomplish that feat.

In the doubles season, Paulhamus and Hensler reached the District 4 final and won it all. It was the first time a Bulldogs doubles team reached the doubles tournament final since 1985.
