Local roundup: Bellefonte baseball completes six-game road stretch without a loss, edges out Clearfield
Six road games, six victories. Behind a two-run seventh, the Bellefonte baseball team completed a six-game road stretch without a loss, edging out Clearfield, 3-2, on Monday afternoon.
RBI singles from Zach Lehman and Parker VonGunden granted Bellefonte the runs it needed to overcome a late one-run deficit while Triston Heeman finished the job from the mound with three strikeouts in the seventh. And before Heeman took over, Carsen Henry tossed six solid innings, striking out seven while allowing two runs on four hits.
Mason Bryson and Sam Springman combined on a four-hit shutout and Parker Bennett went 2 for 3 with a double as Montgomery blanked Bucktail, 15-0 in four innings. Bryson improved to 5-0 and also had a hit, two RBIs and two runs. The Red Raiders (13-3) scored all 15 runs in their final three at-bats and Parker Persing had a hit with three RBIs.
In softball, Adrienne Masullo tossed a one-hitter, falling one hit and one walk short of a perfect game while striking out four, as Bellefonte shut down Clearfield to win, 4-0. Ella Herr and Riley Santostefano eached logged two hits for the Red Raiders, with Herr attributing two RBIs and Santostefano finding home twice.
Lexi Frey struck out eight in a complete game effort and Aubree Reichard belted two doubles as Jersey Shore defeated Troy, 5-4. Reichard scored four times and went 3 for 4, while Mya Lehman was 2 for 3 with an RBI double. Frey came up big in the seventh inning, closing the game after Troy had pulled within one. Sophia Wrench had a hit and RBI and Jersey Shore (11-4) finished with nine hits while winning for the fourth time in five games.
Arianna Snyder and Jenna Houseknecht combined on a three-inning no-hitter and Montgomery scored 16 runs over the final two innings in an 18-0 win at Sugar Valley. Snyder struck out five in two innings and Houseknecht two in the third. Madisyn Miller had a big day, going 3 for 3 with a triple, double, three RBIs and two runs. Zoe Furman smashed a home run, going 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs. Snyder, Madie Hamm and Addison Greger all had two hits, Snyder hitting a two-run double. Ava Hartman also hit a two-run double and Chloe Gordner was 1 for 2 with three RBIs as Montgomery improved to 12-4.
