After Bellefonte baseball’s PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinal run and Bald Eagle’s return to form, it’s no surprise that both squads saw multiple athletes make the Laurel Highlands All-Conference team. Two Red Raiders made the cut, with junior Zach Lehman manning multiple slots. And the Eagles finished with three second teamers.
For Bellefonte, Lehman took a strong debut season as a sophomore starter and built on it in a big way, surpassing 100 strikeouts from the mound while batting above a .400 from the plate. Not only did he earn first-team honors at pitcher, but he also finished as a first teamer in the infield for his time away from the mound at shortstop.
Alongside Lehman, he was joined by fellow junior Evan Mattern, who finished as second-team infielder for his time at third base. Mattern put together the best campaign of his career from the plate, batting a .430 and logging 29 RBIs and ten doubles.
For Bald Eagle, senior Teagun Runkle led the way, manning multiple slots on the All-Conference second team as a pitcher and outfielder. From the mound, Runkle posted a 2.20 ERA while striking out 35. He also prospered as a fielder and batter, logging 43 putouts in centerfield and batting a .361.
Alongside Runkle, fellow Eagles Luke Hosband and Riley Bucha – a sophomore – made the second team, Hosband as an infielder at shortstop and Bucha as a utility player, the team’s designated hitter for the season. Both bat above a .335 on the season, combining for 53 hits and 51 RBIs.
