Dixon picks up second win of season at Clinton County Speedway

MILL HALL -- George Dixon picked up his second victory of the season with an exciting finish of the limited late model feature on Friday. AJ Hoffman earned another pro stock victory, Jillian Maurer of Elysburg won her first 270 micro sprint feature of the season and Zak Kline of Mill Hall and Ryan Lippert of Clearfield won the four-cylinder feature events.
Dixon and Joe Lusk of Linden started on the front row of the limited late model feature event. Lusk took the lead as the top two raced into Turn 1 with Jake Moser, Maddox Smith of Renovo, Trent Merkel in the top five. On lap five, Merkel moved into the top four. Dixon closed in on Lusk, but Lusk was able to hold off the challenges. On lap nine, Dixon made a run at Lusk and did a slide job through turns three and four to take the lead.
Dixon began to pull away from Lusk who found himself in a heated battle with Merkel as Jaxton Garman and Moser rounded out the top five. By lap 11, Dixon began to start encountering lapped traffic. With five laps remaining, Dixon was leading Lusk, Merkel, Garman and Moser. As Dixon was racing to checkered flag, he tangled with a lapped car, who spun. Dixon was able to cross the line for the win over Lusk, Merkel, Garman and Moser.
Kyler Stahl of Watsontown and Ronnie Ergott of Jersey Shore started on the front row of the pro stock feature. Stahl, in his rookie year, took the lead as the front runners exited Turn 2. On lap four Hoffman, who started sixth, took the second position from Ergott. On lap seven, Hoffman passed Stahl for the lead. On lap eight, the caution flag waved for Jesse Farley.
Following the restart, Hoffman was leading Stahl, Ergott, AY Schilling and Cory Long. Hoffman led the remaining laps to earn the victory over Stahl, Ergott, Long and Schilling.
Colton Guiher of Bellefonte led the first circuit of the 270 micro feature. Maurer who started fourth took the lead by the completion of lap two and on lap four, the caution came out when Lukas Ramer's car stopped on the track. Following the restart, Maurer was leading Hazelton's Ross Perchak, Middleburg's Garrison Zook, Mason McAndrew and Guiher.
The remainder of the event went non-stop with the final two laps proving to be the most exciting. Maurer ran a dominant race, and she and Perchak touched on occasion while racing hard. Maurer got caught behind a lapped car in Turn 2 on the final lap, allowing Perchak to take the lead, but Maurer battled back to get a run entering Turn 3 and held on for her first win of the year. Perchak finished second, followed by Mason McAndrew, Guiher, and Colten McAndrew.
The four cylinders competed in two feature events. In the first feature Coty Maines of Jersey Shore led the first lap. Zak Kline took the lead on lap two, as Larry Beachel took second place. Beachel would hold onto second place until two laps to go when Garrett Watkins made a pass for the runner up spot.
Ryan Lippert led the second four-cylinder event from green to checkered. Eric Deitrick battled with Jimmy Moyer for the second position. Moyer secured second place on lap seven. Seventh-place starter Jim Ogden advanced up to the third position. It was Lippert’s first win at the speedway.
The Clinton County Speedway will be off this upcoming Friday to allow the Clinton County Fair set up for their annual fair week.
On Friday, Aug. 7, the speedway will honor the memory of Jim Kennedy, who passed away earlier this year. It would have been Kennedy's 92nd birthday and the RaceSaver Sprints will compete for a $2,000-to-win payday.
