Keystone minors kick off states against Lehigh

PHOENIXVILLE- It's been quite the run for the Keystone minor baseball team. As the last week of July begins, it holds a record of 6-0 and championship banners at the District 12 and Section 3 level.
The road steepened at sectionals in Middleburg, where Keystone weathered three complete games – one reaching extras and two requiring a late rally for victory – and were tested on both sides of the field. Now, the road steepens further, as the team prepares for states.
The tournament kicks off on Monday, with the Keystone minors set to face Section 6 champion Lehigh in the first round. That game begins at 4:30 p.m. at Upper Providence field in Phoenixville.
Like Keystone, Lehigh escaped districts relatively unscathed in early July, weathering a tough opener before blowing past its last two opponents by a combined score of 22-2, before seeing greater road blocks at sections.
It needed three runs in the last two innings to defeat Blue Mountain, 4-3, to open its Section 6 run. Then, like districts, it found its footing in the last two games, rolling to a title with wins of 22-3 and 8-3.
A win for either team would advance it to winner's semis, where it'll face the winner of Section 1 champ St. Mary's and Section 8 champion Upper Providence. That semifinal is set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
