Howard hopes to get more time on field

Following is a preseason series on Penn State's position groups and a key player to watch from each:
POSITION: Wide receivers
Player to watch: Koby Howard (No. 6)
Class: Sophomore
Height/weight: 5-foot-11, 203 pounds
Career to this point: Played in nine games and started four of them as a true freshman in 2025, seeing more time under interim coach Terry Smith. The speedster posted seven receptions for 133 yards, despite his limited time.
Quotable: "Koby has great potential. His whole thing is consistency. He works really hard at his craft, which is awesome. And I think just adding, as any good young player, at the consistency of showing up and being able to do all the little things well."
— Matt Campbell
FYI: Coming out of high school, Howard was the 170th best prospect in the nation, and the 29th best wide receiver. He was a four-star prospect by Rivals.
Others in the mix: Howard will run out of the slot and likely will be joined by Iowa State transfers Chase Sowell (No. 0) and Brett Eskildsen (No. 4). This is Sowell's fourth school (Colorado, East Carolina and Iowa State) and he was Big 12 newcomer of the year in 2025. Eskildsen averaged 17 yards per catch, and both had 500-plus yards receiving last year.
