First-year starters for the Jersey Shore girls tennis team notched their first career wins on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to lead the Bulldogs to victory. Behind a strong singles out, Shikellamy edged out Shore, 3-2, as the Bulldogs fell to 0-2 on the season.
At Singles Court 3, Rylee Allison picked up her first career singles win for Jersey Shore, bouncing back from a first-set tiebreaker loss to take a thrilling three-set match. She scraped out the second set before dominating the second, winning 12 of her last 18 games.
At Doubles Court 2, Scarlett Hensler and Alainia Samar dominated to grant the Bulldogs their first point, dropping two combined games to win 6-1, 6-1. The victory mark the team's first doubles win of the season.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, hosting their third and final match of a three-game home stint against familiar foe Hughesville. That match is set for 4 p.m. at the Jersey Shore Tennis Courts.
