Multiple local standouts inducted into Centre County HoF

On Monday afternoon, the members of the Centre County Sports Hall of Fame were made official for its 2026 class. The class represents decades of achievement, leadership, service and lasting contributions to sports in Centre County, with each inductee leaving an enduring mark on their respective communities and the athletes, teams, and programs they served.
Of the 12 inductees within this year's class, four came from Express area communities. Current Bald Eagle Area softball assistant coach Jim Gardner was named a 2026 inductee, having coached the Eagles for over four decades, as well as Chris Shivery (Bellefonte), Christie Wiest (Penns Valley) and Bethany Irwin (Bellefonte).
Shivery was a three-sport athlete with the Red Raiders, competing in baseball, basketball and football. Christie Wiest was a three-sport athlete with the Rams, competing in softball, soccer and basketball. And Irwin coached the Bellefonte girls basketball team alongside State College and St. Joseph's Catholic.
Other inductees included Centre County community contributor Rob Irwin, Centre County softball umpire William Keough, legendary Philipsburg-Osceola baseball and basketball coach Gerald Davis, State College athlete and coach Mike Fergus, State College football and track athlete Alex J. Kenney, State College track and field coach and athlete Tom Kleban, State College basketball athlete Rob Krimmel and Philipsburg-Osceola wrestling athlete and coach Tim McCamley.
The Hall of Fame Day Celebration will be held Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Penn Stater Hotel starting at 11:30 a.m. Anyone interested in attending and purchasing tickets may contact Bethany Irwin at Bethanycirwin@gmail.com by Sept. 1, 2026.
