Bellefonte girls soccer defeats rival Bald Eagle, as three Red Raiders score

By From staff reports 3 min read

WINGATE – In the annual rivalry matchup between Bellefonte and Bald Eagle on Wednesday night, the Red Raiders came out with the upper hand in girls soccer action. Three separate players helped Bellefonte break through strong goalkeeping from the Eagles, as defeated its rival, 3-0, on the road.

Senior captain Reese Patterson kicked off the scoring for the Red Raiders at the midway point of the first half. Bald Eagle goalkeeper Cami Walker defended the shot well, but Patterson was able to ricochet it off the sophomore into the right corner of the net.

From there, the game would remain a one-goal game until midway through the second, when Bellefonte rattled off two goals in quick succession. Emily Culley and Norah Davis notched those goals within eight minutes of each other, as the Red Raiders turned a surmountable cushion into a comfy one.

Outside of scoring, senior captain Sydney Miller finished with two assists while the team as a whole rattled off shot after shot, finishing with 26 on goal. And Ronni Spotts closed with five saves to keep the Eagles scoreless.

For Bald Eagle, Cami Walker did what she could in goal, amassing 23 saves to keep the Eagles in it as long as she could. Despite two losses in close succession, head coach Jared Moore was proud of what his team put out there.

“I thought we played well tonight. We were right with them,” said Moore. “An error on our part put us down 1-0 at half, but we moved some people around and I thought we were right with them in the second half.”

“Savanna Albright was outstanding and didn’t let anything get into the box. Cami Walker made save after save and quite a few diving saves. Bellefonte put two great long ranged shots that just went under the bar in to seal it,” he continued.

The loss marked the second in two days for the Eagles, and they’ll look to bounce back against Bedford next Tuesday. For Bellefonte (4-0-1), it moves forward without a loss on its resume and will look to carry that streak forward into another Centre County rivalry contest at Penns Valley next Monday.
