Williamsport is seeking its third straight 3-0 start and has an impressive 512.5 yards-per-game average through two games played so far this year. The Millionaires, however, have allowed 431.5 yards per game as well. Thus far, it has not mattered because the offense has produced like a video game.
Quarterback Tevin Williams made history last week, becoming the first Millionaire player to ever throw, catch and run for touchdowns in the same game. The junior signal caller already has produced 10 touchdowns this season four ways, adding two interceptions. Zion Hughes found Williams for a 54-yard touchdown in that Hazleton win and also ran for 114 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Trey Damschroder has topped 100 yards offense in both games and tied for second among area receivers with 10 catches.
Cordoza Minor and Anthony Manley help spark both the offensive and defensive lines with Manley returning an interception for a touchdown a week ago and adding two sacks. Manley has topped 100 tackles the past two seasons, helping anchor the linebacking unit. Brayden Ungard is one of the area's premier kickers and is second in the area with 12 points, going 7-of-7 on extra-point tries last week.
Jaylen Lilly, a junior wide receiver, provides Williamsport another weapon and displayed his big-play ability last week, hauling in a 39-yard Williams touchdown pass.
Central Mountain (0-2) is seeking its first win against Williamsport since 2014 and was within nine points of Warrior Run in the fourth quarter a week ago before losing, 42-19. The Wildcats have made some big plays early this season with Alex Johnson returning a kickoff 68 yards for a score last week and quarterback Kyle Everett hitting Gavin Heverly for an 80-yard score.
Jacob Rembold got the defense into the scoring action as well, taking an interception 24 yards for a touchdown. Everett is a mobile threat and ran for 133 yards in the season opener against Mifflin County. Linebacker Kole Corman holds virtually every program tackling record there is and has started strong again, collecting 29 through two games, including 20 solos. Rembold has started strong at linebacker as well, making 18 tackles.
Johnson and Kai Fravel both have three tackles for loss. Central Mountain limited Mifflin County to 248 yards and held an early lead but some self-inflicted mistakes flipped the game's complexion.
Junior lineman Tanner McCall is making a nice impact on both sides of the ball. McCall has a sack in both games and has averaged five tackles. He also has blocked well and produced a pancake against Warrior run. McCall is one of many underclassmen starting up front, providing Central Mountain a quality foundation.
Central Mountain is better than last year, but Williamsport may be as well. The Wildcats are making plays, but it will be hard keeping up with the Millionaires.
