Jersey Shore set for a potential thriller vs. Montoursville

MONTOURSVILLE - Fresh off an impressive, come-from-behind win in its 2026 debut, the Jersey Shore football team is set for what should be another tense game, this time in a renewed rivalry matchup against District 4 foe Montoursville. It's a game Sun-Gazette sports reporter Chris Masse coined his Game of the Week, a notable indication for the excitement set to take place at the Warriors' Memorial Stadium on Friday.
The Bulldogs are coming off a performance that showed flaws early, flaws which were quickly tuned out by a 42-point onslaught through the game's last three quarters that led them past a strong North Schuylkill squad, 49-34. Their defense adjusted to the Spartans' potent rushing attack in the second half while Shore's leading quarterback-receiver connection reigned supreme en route to complete control.
In the third quarter alone, Nolen Pauling and Carter Rhinehart connected for three touchdowns, including one on a fourth-and-long conversion that officially shifted the momentum Shore's way. Pauling totaled 390 yards and six touchdowns, and Rhinehart turned seven receptions into 152 yards and a hat trick of TDs.
Coupled with some big runs from Zeke Sechrist, who ran for 64 yards, and a 37-yard touchdown reception from first-year receiver Khani McCray, the Bulldog offense finished with 477 yards and 18 first downs to just one turnover. Now, it looks to carry that success forward while improving its run defense, which surrendered 285 yards in Friday's opener.
Montoursville's coming off its own notable win against Troy, who recently won a Class AA state title in 2024. Quarterback Elijah Eck led the Warriors within the impressive 26-19 victory, thriving in both the run and the pass.
On the ground, Eck averaged over ten yards per carry and scored thrice, totaling 129 yards on 12 rushes. And through the air, the Warrior connected with six different receivers for 183 yards and completed 55 percent of his passes.
As a whole, Montoursville was efficient, picking up 17 first downs while turning the ball over zero times. And defensively, it proved similarly stout as it forced four turnovers and allowed just 173 yards and ten first downs.
Each team has set the stage for what should be an exciting, early-season thriller. Friday's game at Memorial Stadium is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
