Lock Haven fell to No. 3-ranked Kutztown last weekend at home, 35-20, to fall to 1-2 as the Bald Eagles hope to get back to winning today with a road trip to Gannon for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The Bald Eagles knew a matchup against the third-ranked Golden Bears last week would be tough, but Lock Haven put up a fight and scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 15 points.
Kutztown used a 14-point first quarter to put Lock Haven in a hole early.
Robert Footman Jr. had success in the air as he went 33 for 38 for 288 yards with two touchdown passes, throwing just five incompletions against a talented Kutztown defense.
However while Footman Jr. had success passing, the Bald Eagles' ground game sputtered. Lock Haven had just 39 rushing yards on 21 carries, averaging only 1.9 yards per rush as a team.
Jaeion Perry had six tackles for Lock Haven and Rasu Wearing-Poindexter had five tackles. Q McMillan had an interception, as did Wearing-Poindexter.
Gannon is looking for its first win of the year. The Knights fell to Davenport (32-20), Shepherd (45-28) and Bloomsburg (33-27, OT) to open the year 0-3. Gannon rallied last weekend as Donell Mason had a 9-yard touchdown pass from Ty Hurst with 12:48 left in the game to tie it 27-27, only to see Bloomsburg win it in overtime.
Hurst threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns, going 19 for 26, for Gannon while Nasean Hill ran for 95 yards in that loss.
So far this year, Hill has ran for 134 yards, averaging 3.4 per carry, and Hurst threw for 658 yards with seven touchdowns. Hurst also has found numerous targets to throw to as Mason has 16 catches for 265 and four scores and Chazz Corley has six catches for 134 and three touchdowns. Gannon also has Hill who caught 12 passes, Zaheem Crawford-Patterson catch seven and four others catch at least one pass.
