Shaffer’s clutch goal, Mason’s defense lead LHU past Charleston

Maci Shaffer scored the game-winner and Devon Mason finished with a clean sheet to lead the Lock Haven women's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over University of Charleston in the Bald Eagle's home opener at Hubert Jack Stadium on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 2).

Shaffer scored the contest's lone goal in the 74th minute of play and Mason racked up five saves to headline the Bald Eagles' victory. The goal and the shutout were both the first in the careers for the freshmen duo.

The goal came off an assist from Colleen Lloyd.

Both teams finished with seven saves and one corner, while Lock Haven held a slight 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The first half was a clean, evenly matched battle, with just four total fouls between the teams. Each side recorded three shots on goal, and the score remained tied at 0-0.

Lloyd led The Haven with four total shots, while Lily O'Brian and Bryn Constanzer both finished with a team-high two shots on goal.

The Bald Eagles remain home and will host California (Pa.) on Saturday (Sept. 5) at 1 p.m. at Hubert Jack Stadium for Senior Day.
