Bellefonte shoots to build off big win, win 4th straight against Bellwood-Antis
Trending
After taking down state-ranked Richland last week, Bellefonte football hosts another challenging foe in Bellwood-Antis (6-2) in Week 9. The Red Raiders will be looking to win four straight for the first time since 2019 on Friday, as well as avenge last year's 22-0 loss against the Blue Devils.
Stats wise, Alten Howell, Ashten Howell and Parker Jodon continue to lead the way for Bellefonte.
Alten Howell surpassed 1,000 yards (627 passing, 399 rushing) in last week's win over the Rams, helping score both Bellefonte's touchdowns and continuing to keep turnovers to a minimum. Ashten Howell has turned 47 touches into 336 yards in the last four games and scored in the last three games, and Jodon leads the team in all-purpose yards with 797.
Those three, coupled with a growing line, have been pivotal in the team winning three straight, but defense has been the name of the game for the Red Raiders. In the last three games, no opponent has scored more than 13 against Bellefonte, as it has surrendered less than ten points per game within that span.
Bellwood-Antis could certainly test that trend. The Blue Devils average over 250 rushing yards per game, led by standout senior running back Alex McCartney.
Having built off an exceptional junior campaign, McCartney heads into the week 97 yards removed from 1,000 with 14 touchdowns, averaging 6.5 yards per rush. Quarterback Bradyn Partner adds a second dimension to B-A’s potent rush attack, with 629 yards and almost ten yards per carry to his name, and Chase Plummer adds a third.
The Blue Devils aren't known for their passing but do have three receivers - Ethan Shawley, Jeffrey Waite and Bradyn Partner - with over 130 receiving yards this season. Defensively, they've given up just over ten points per game. And as a team, they've beaten four teams that are .500 or better, including defending District 6 champ Bishop McCort.
