Central Mountain girls tennis advances to D6 AA team final, defeats Central Cambria

MILL HALL – After closing out the regular season on a tear, the Central Mountain girls tennis team carried that momentum into postseason. In a District 6 Class AA team semifinal that came down to the wire, the Wildcats came out on top, using a singles sweep to defeat Central Cambria, 3-2.
The team will face the winner of Central and No. 2 seeded Westmont in Wednesday’s final at Central Mountain.
“This was a match for the ages. Everybody came to play today.
Absolutely ecstatic for the Lady Wildcats,” said Central Mountain head coach Tom Zettle on the win. “Top to bottom, they played their hearts out.”
The deciding match was a tight one, coming on Singles Court 2 between Central Mountain’s Lucy Walker and Central Cambria’s Ireland DeBalli. Walker fell just short of taking the first set before bouncing back with set victories of 6-4 and 6-2, clinching the win for the Wildcats.
“Lucy lost the first set 6-4 and won the second set 6-4. Those scores alone showed how closely these two young ladies were matched,” said Zettle. “They were both exhaused but had to play a third set to decided the match and fortunately, Lucy took an early lead and pulled out the win in over a three-hour match.”
“Pretty sure those two would like to sleep until noon tomorrow,” he added.
Central Mountain got its other two wins in straight-set fashion, as Addison Lindsay clean swepts Central Cambria’s Taryn Ream and Lane Walker defeated Madison Dietz, 6-3, 7-5.
