Lock Haven football has tough matchup against ranked IUP

TIM WEIGHT/Special to the Sun-Gazette Lock Haven celebrates a touchdown against Clarion last week. The bald Eagles face No. 10-ranked Indiana (Pa.) today.

Lock Haven earned a thrilling 38-35 win last week against Clarion, securing it with a last-second game-winning field goal to move to 3-2 and secure the Bald Eagles' second straight win.

There's no doubt the Bald Eagles are hyped and motivated after that win, but the Bald Eagles have a tall task this week in facing No. 10-ranked Indiana (Pa.), the second ranked opponent Lock Haven has faced so far this year.

Lock Haven suffered a 35-20 loss three weeks ago to ranked Kutztown.

Robert Footman Jr. went 32 for 44 for 369 yards last week and threw three touchdown passes. He did however throw three picks and was sacked twice. The Bald Eagles know Footman Jr. will have to clean up some of those mistakes against the tenth-ranked team in the nation and the offensive line will need to prevent Indiana (Pa.) from getting pressure constantly against him.

On the ground, Ezequiel Johnson found some running room and had 73 rushing yards and a touchdown while Tucker Teats had 31 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Jase Ferguson threw for 348 yards last week for Clarion and had a touchdown. While the Bald Eagles limited Clarion's ground game -- holding it to 81 rushing yards on 26 carries -- Ferguson did damage with his arm, something the Bald Eagles' defense will look to improve on.

The Crimson Hawks are 5-0 and are coming off a thrilling 46-44 double overtime win over Edinboro. Indiana (Pa.) has 34 or more points in three of its five wins and has scored at least 27 in all five games.

In the win over Edinboro, the Crimson Hawks saw Mason Maggs throw for 396 yards and four touchdowns, going 19 for 28. Maggs has been superb for Indiana (Pa.) this season. Through five game she's thrown for 1,191 yards and 17 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He has averaged 238.2 yards per game as well.

The Bald Eagles know that Indiana (Pa.)'s offense runs through Maggs' arm and Lock Haven will have to put pressure on him and do their best pass coverage to prevent him from doing a lot of damage in the aerial attack.

Lock Haven has not defeated Indiana (Pa.) since 1981. The Bald Eagles lost by just a field goal in 2024, but lost the 2025 contest by 32 points and were trounced in 2019 by a lopsided 77-14 margin.
