After earning its second win of the season in dominant fashion last week, Penns Valley football will look to secure its third on Friday as it shoots for a late playoff push. Its 54-0 win over Greater Johnstown in Week 8 pushing it into the top eight of the District 6 Class AA standings, and it hopes to build on that against Huntingdon (4-4) in Week 9.
The Rams put together a well-rounded effort in last week's win. Defensively, they secured five turnovers and turned many of them into points, holding Greater Johnstown to just over 100 yards. And offensively, they scored their most points since 2022.
Sophomore quarterback Cael Smith logged four scores to up his season total to 16 while rushing and passing for over 100 yards in a fourth straight game and completing all nine of his passes. The team as a whole accumulated over 400 yards, Isaac Harpster scored as a passer and a receiver and Gannyn Stover turned 11 carries into 84 yards and a score.
Even with two tough losses following up Penns Valley's win over Bellefonte in Week 5, the Rams have maintained the progress they displayed in that victory. They'll look to continue that trend against a tough Huntingdon squad on Friday in Spring Mills.
The Bearcats are led by junior phenom Cole Lane, who enters Friday's contest with 12 total scores and 66 total tackles and stands 34 short of 1,000 rushing yards. Dual-threat quarterback Reese Hughes has had success through the air and on the ground, and Javaughn Dodson and Kobe Carthen have over 300 receiving yards each.
