Central Mountain, Bellefonte see three wrestlers advance to semis at West AAA Regional

CANONSBURG - On Friday evening, the West Class AAA Regional officially kicked off at Canon-McMillan High School. Central and Bellefonte were in attendance, each having eight wrestlers striving to keep their championship bracket runs alive. Of those 16 wrestlers, three made it to championship semifinals. Despite a strong effort from Central Mountain junior Aiden Kunes to make something happen late, No. 1 ranked Kai Vielma (Connellsville) once again had an answer, defeating the Wildcat by 5-2 decision to be crowned West Class AAA Regional champion. Bald Eagle, Penns Valley advance 7 combined wrestlers to semis at Southwest AA Regional

ALTOONA - Of the 14 combined regional qualifiers representing Bald Eagle and Penns Valley, all 14 kept their regional runs alive through Day One of the Southwest Class AA regional on Friday. For Bald Eagle, Tanner Guenot (133), Caden Judice (145) and Dawson Lomison (152) advanced to their respective semifinals with 2-0 outings. Jersey Shore's Gabriel Fisher advanced to the championship semifinals at 121 pounds. Fisher had a 15-2 major decision in the quarterfinals against Archbishop Ryan's Dillon Carr thanks to a flurry of points in the third period. The win moved him to the semifinals where he'll face Bethlehem Catholic's Nico Emili. Fisher led 6-1 going to the third period. Penn State men’s basketball beats Iowa at home

STATE COLLEGE — Stellar late-game execution and a career-high 25 points from senior Josh Reed led the Penn State men’s basketball team to a 71-69 win over Iowa Saturday afternoon inside the Bryce Jordan Center. 
The Penn State defense clamped down in the game’s final minutes, as the Hawkeyes scored just two points in the final 4:29 of play.
