LHU softball endures sweep vs. Shepherd to open busy stretch

The Lock Haven softball team kicked off a stretch of three home games in as many days by hosting Shepherd in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader at Lawrence Field on Sunday afternoon. CALIFORNIA — Lock Haven dropped a doubleheader to California (Pa.) on the road, losing the first contest, 7-1, and dropping the second, 9-4. The Bald Eagles move to 4-19 overall and 1-6 in the West, while the Vulcans improve to 16-7 on the year and 7-1 in league play. On Saturday, the Bellefonte track and field teams hosted Selinsgrove, Brookville, East Juniata and St. Joseph's Catholic in a home meet at Rogers Stadium. Though cold weather was a factor, the Red Raiders still put together strong performances on both sides. On the girls side, Bellefonte defeated Brookville (94-51) and East Juniata (120-27) handedly, falling just short against Selinsgrove (82-68) in pursuit of a sweep. SELINSGROVE – The Lock Haven men’s track and field team competed at the Jim Taylor Duals at Susquehanna University on Friday and Saturday. Lock Haven won the team dual title. The Bald Eagles turned in a strong performance, including earning an NCAA provisional mark and more Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship qualifying marks. SELINSGROVE – The Lock Haven women’s track and field team competed at the Jim Taylor Duals at Susquehanna University on Friday and Saturday. The Bald Eagles turned in a strong performance and earned more Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship qualifying marks. Nicole Carroll won the 1500-meter run by finishing in 4:47.07 and earned a PSAC qualifying time. Samantha Trench earned a PSAC qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles by finishing in 15.43 and taking third. Jersey Shore hosted a tri-meet with Montgomery and South Williamsport and had a ton of success in both the girls and boys competition.
