UPMC Susquehanna invites women to Girls’ Night Out

LOCK HAVEN– In conjunction with UPMC Susquehanna’s Spirit of Women program expanding to Clinton County, Girls’ Night Out, an annual Spirit of Women signature event, will be held on Thursday, April 26 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center, 10 Susquehanna Ave., Lock Haven.

The can’t-miss event will feature a presentation on preventing reproductive cancers by UPMC’s Dr. Brian Orr, as well as free health screenings and health education, shopping and food.

“Spirit Girls’ Night Out allows women to come together for an evening of fun, entertainment, and education,” explains Tonya Welshans, outreach Coordinator for UPMC Susquehanna. “We encourage women to take a moment for themselves to recharge their batteries, feel inspired, and take charge of their health.”

Event registration and Spirit of Women membership is required to attend. Membership is free and open to women over 18. Membership provides insider access to free wellness screenings, special events, business discounts, and educational presentations on women’s health topics throughout the year in Tioga, Lycoming, Northumberland, and Clinton Counties.

Alzheimer’s group to make lavender sachets

LOCK HAVEN — Barb Schmouder of Jersey Shore will be on hand at the next meeting of the Covenant Cafe to show participants how to make lavender sachets.

Also at the Tuesday, April 17 meeting, Lock Haven University student volunteer Mikayla Frinzi will instruct participants in fork painting and the group will continue to work on scrap books entitled “A Life Well-Lived.” Participants are asked to bring photos of themselves throughout their lives.

The Covenant Cafe, an early stage Alzheimer’s activity group, meets at 1 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St.

The Covenant Cafe is a joint venture between the Outreach and Witness Committee of Covenant United Methodist, the Alzheimer’s Support Group and the Alzheimer’s Association. Participants in this group are given an opportunity to be involved in socially and physically stimulating programs which will help them remain as active as possible.

Audubon Society plans

bird walk

SOUTH WILLIAMPORT — The Lycoming County Audubon Society has planned a bird walk in South Williamsport Community Park on Saturday, April 21, at 8:30 a.m., weather permitting.

Loaner binoculars are available.

Trip leaders are Maddi Dunlap and Jean Dalton.

Those wishing to participate will meet in the parking lot by the entrance to South Williamsport Community Park on East Central Avenue.

Birding and wildflower walk

WILLIAMSPORT — A Lycoming Audubon birding and wildflower walk for beginners will be held at Canfield Island in Loyalsock Twp. at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, weather permitting.

This is an easy afternoon stroll around Canfield Island to look for songbirds and raptors, and also to learn some wildflower identification. Loaner binoculars are available. Trip leaders are Larry Waltz (570- 323-2385) and Nancy Hornberger.

Paarticipants will meet at Riverfront Park pavilion parking lot. Turn off East Third Street onto Canfield Lane (by Super 8 Motel), and follow signs.

Battle of Gettysburg topic

of Roundtable

LOCK HAVEN — Ron Cryder will be speaking about the 50th reunion of the Batttle of Gettysburg at a meeting of the Civil War Roundtable at Avenue 209 Coffee House on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the coffee house, 209 Bellefonte Ave., Lock Haven.

All are welcome to attend.
