BELLEFONTE -- With Election Day right around the corner, Centre County continues to prepare to roll out its new voting machines.
At Tuesday's Centre County commissioners' meeting, commissioner Michael Pipe talked about the progress being made in preparation for Election Day, Tuesday, May 21.
According to Pipe, training with the new machines is through the first phase – but it's not yet complete.
"We have poll worker training that's scheduled in a few weeks," he said.
Poll workers will be trained in late April, he said.
"That will be happening and it will give the folks a good opportunity to see the (new) machines," Pipe said. "We do look forward to our poll workers getting updated on the new machines."
Centre County recently purchased 200 machines from Election Systems and Software with a price tag of $1,192,571. That price breaks down like this: $860,571 for the equipment and $332,000 for a five-year hardware and software maintenance agreement, as well as set-up and training. Gov. Tom Wolf earmarked $75 million in his budget for the new machines statewide. However, that $75 million will be paid over the course of five years.
In other business on Tuesday, the commissioners moved several items to next week's consent agenda:
∫ An agreement with Weber Murphy Cox, Inc., to provide architectural professional services for a renovation to the Centre County court house. The contract total is $47,500.
∫ A contract with Milliman for the production of a valuation report, GASB 75 other postemployment benefit financial reporting for fiscal years 2018 and 2019, as well as an interim year report as of Dec. 31, 2019, which will be prepared in 2020. The purpose of the valuation report is to determine if the county is required to fund nay post-employment benefits, other than pensions, on a pay-as-go-basis or via an established trust fund. The contract total is $17,415 for the period of Jan. 1, 2019 through Dec. 31, 2020.
∫ A contract renewal with Superion LLC, a Central Square Company, to provide annual maintenance and support for the for the Finance Plus software. The contract total is $35,773.49 for the period of Feb. 1, 2019 through Jan. 31, 2020.
∫ Maintenance contract renewal with Condusiv Technologies. Condusive Technologies provides quick recovery for deleted files. The contract total is $976.29 for the period of March 29, 2019 through March 29, 2020.
The commissioners approved a Federal Fiscal Year 2018 Entitlement Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to fund construction of a water storage tank in Unionville Borough ($272,622), pedestrian bridge in Talleyrand Park, Bellefonte Borough ($89,804), additional funds ($79,550) are set aside for grant administration. The contract total is $441,976 for the period of March 7, 2019 through March 6, 2023.
The commissioners also announced that county offices will be closed on Friday, April 19 for spring break.
The commissioners will meet again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
